چکیده

The Diels-Alder cycloaddition of dimethyl-1 ,2-cyclobutenedicarboxylate to a 1,3-diene results in the formation of an adduct which can subsequently be decarboxylated and dehydrogenated to provide a cyclobutene-fused benzenoid system. The use of · appropriate dienes has led to the preparation of a series of paraand metabis-annelated benzenes. Variations in the 1H and C NMR and in the UV spectra are found to be a function of the size of the annelated rings as well as their relative orientation. A similar approach has been employed in a preparation of the very elusive tricyclobutabenzene which may r epresent the missing link between 1,5,9-cyclododecatriyne and 6-radialene. Tricyclobutabenzene is a stable crystalline material (mp 141-142 °C) whose physical properties are quite consistent with higher homologs. An X-ray structure of its perfluoro analog shows no evidence for any bond alternation. A double-barreled application of the Diels-Alder approach has led to the synthesis of naphtho[b,e]dicyclobutene. The physical properties of this molecule are also compared to higher homologs.

Theoretical study of the reaction mechanisms involved in the thermal intramolecular reactions of 1,6-fullerenynes.

Substitution of a H atom by an alkyl group on the terminal carbon of the alkyne moiety of 1,6-fullerenynes has a strong impact on the products of the reaction undergone by this species after thermal treatment. While the reaction of 1,6-fullerenynes bearing an unsubstituted alkyne moiety results in the cycloaddition of the alkyne group to the fullerene double bond leading to cyclobutene-fused de...

Economical post-CCSD(T) computational thermochemistry protocol and applications to some aromatic compounds.

To achieve a kilojoules-per-mole level of accuracy consistently in computational thermochemistry, the inclusion of post-CCSD(T) correlation effects cannot be avoided. Such effects are included in the W4 and HEAT computational thermochemistry protocols. The principal bottleneck in carrying out such calculations for larger systems is the evaluation of the T(3)-(T) term. We propose a cost-effectiv...

Aromaticity and magnetotropicity of dicyclopenta-fused polyacenesw

Most dicyclopenta-fused polyacenes are predicted to be moderately aromatic and diatropic, although they have no (4n + 2)-site conjugated circuits. We applied our graph theory of aromaticity and magnetotropicity to these molecules and found that these anomalous properties arise from a set of non-conjugated circuits, which contribute collectively to aromaticity and diatropicity. This result indic...

Aromatic Properties of Fully-benzenoid Hydrocarbons

We consider a family of structurally closely related fully-benzenoid hydrocarbons of increasing number of fused benzene rings. Local and global aromatic properties of such molecules are investigated with a particular interest in investigating the role of the finite size of such molecules in modelling the high-polymer or even graphite. An interesting alternation of local properties for benzene r...
